Police Foil Violent Gang Attack in Kano, Arrest Suspects in Major Operation

The Kano State command of the Nigeria Police Force has successfully foiled a violent clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba’ groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area, arresting six suspects and restoring peace in the community. The incident, which erupted around 1:20 pm on Monday, saw hoodlums mobilising for a confrontation in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters, prompting immediate police intervention. According to CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the state Police Public Relations Officer, the force received a distress call and swiftly deployed patrol teams to the scene. Officers arrived to find the suspects already engaged in a violent fight, leading to the vandalisation of an ambulance and attempts to attack other properties.

The police statement revealed that the thugs resisted arrest, regrouping to launch attacks on officers using dangerous weapons and stones. Despite the aggression, the police maintained professionalism and repelled the assault, forcing the suspects to flee toward the Farm Centre Market. As the fleeing hoodlums tried to break into shops and loot goods, reinforcement teams were rapidly mobilised. These teams successfully dispersed the group and apprehended six individuals, bringing the situation under control.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers of the Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their bravery and quick response. He noted that their actions prevented further loss of life and property, as well as a wider breakdown of law and order. Bakori issued a stern warning that the command will not tolerate any form of thuggery, ‘Yan Daba’ activities, or disturbances to public peace in Kano State. He urged parents and guardians to counsel their children and wards against involvement in criminal acts, stressing that anyone found fomenting trouble would face arrest and prosecution.

Investigations are ongoing to track down other suspects who escaped and to identify the masterminds behind the clash. The police also expressed appreciation to residents who provided timely information, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency lines. This incident underscores the continued efforts by security agencies to maintain peace in Kano, especially in areas prone to youth-related violence. As the police continue to monitor the situation, residents are encouraged to cooperate with authorities to ensure lasting security in the region.
