Nollywood actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has opened up about his marriage to actress Adebimpe “Mo Bimpe” Oyebade, revealing how their relationship defied personal convictions, career boundaries, and religious differences to become a lasting union. In a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown, Adedimeji shared heartfelt details about how he overcame his initial decision not to marry someone from the entertainment industry. He admitted that while he once firmly believed he would never marry within the industry, life took a different path — one guided by fate and personal growth.
Lateef recalled repeatedly stating that he would never date or marry another person in the entertainment space, only to find that his words were challenged by divine timing. “I would always say that I would never marry in the industry, or marry an industry person. But most of the time, you just talk, and God will be looking at you like, ‘No, not it,’” he said. Their relationship began as a professional collaboration, with both working on business ventures before their bond turned romantic. This foundation of friendship and mutual respect helped them navigate the complexities of being public figures in love.
One of the biggest hurdles they faced was their religious difference — Lateef is a Muslim, while Mo Bimpe is a Christian. This raised concerns among some family members, particularly regarding acceptance in their households. In response, Lateef took a bold step: he decided to meet Mo Bimpe’s father personally to address the concerns directly. “They will not accept a Muslim in my household,” he recalled being told. His reply was firm: “Are you sure? Let me go and see your father.” This proactive approach helped bridge the gap and paved the way for mutual acceptance.
For Lateef, religion was never the primary factor in choosing a life partner. He emphasized that inner peace, conscience, and character were more important. “The first religion is your conscience and is your peace of mind. Every other thing comes after then,” he stated. Both families eventually welcomed their union, allowing the couple to build a marriage grounded in love, understanding, and shared values.
Lateef also highlighted Mo Bimpe’s intelligence, confidence, and strong personality as key attractions. He stressed that physical beauty alone was not enough for him. “She is a very intelligent person, and she is a very stern person. ‘This is it, that is it,’” he said. He values a partner who challenges him and contributes to his personal growth. “You can be very beautiful and nothing upstairs. Then there’s no point. That means you won’t move me forward. I need somebody to push me and to keep pushing me forward, and that she did,” he added.
Their story has resonated with fans, offering a glimpse into a relationship built on mutual respect, friendship, and shared purpose. As Lateef and Mo Bimpe continue to grow together, their journey stands as a testament to love that transcends industry norms and religious divides, setting an example for many in Nigeria and beyond.
