Police Declare Bayelsa Community Head Wanted, Recover Weapons from Suspects in Security Crackdown

The Bayelsa State Police Command, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force, has arrested 14 suspects and recovered weapons and speed boats in Ogboinbiri community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, following a search operation on May 10, 2026. The operation targeted the premises of a suspect known as “Lionface,” a loyalist to former Youth President Mr. Pere Experience and Deputy Paramount Ruler of the community. Security operatives acted on credible intelligence to execute the search warrant, leading to the seizure of four pump-action guns, three packets of cartridges, and four operational speed boats with engines suspected of being used in criminal activities along the waterways.

The arrests were confirmed by DSP Musa Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa State Command, who stated that the operation was a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements in the region. According to the statement, the operation was carried out at about 1430 hours on May 10, 2026, and involved coordinated efforts between police operatives and Joint Task Force personnel. The recovered items are believed to have been used to facilitate illegal activities, including piracy, oil bunkering, and other waterborne crimes prevalent in the Niger Delta.

While 14 suspects have been apprehended, authorities are still pursuing the principal suspect, “Lionface,” who remains at large. The Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, emphasizing the command’s commitment to ensuring peace and security across Bayelsa State. He also urged the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to aid security agencies in their efforts to combat crime.

The operation underscores the increasing collaboration between law enforcement agencies in tackling insecurity in the Niger Delta region. With the recovery of firearms and watercraft, authorities hope to disrupt criminal networks operating in the area. The Bayelsa State Police Command remains vigilant, particularly in communities with histories of youth-related unrest and illicit activities. As the search for “Lionface” continues, residents are being reassured that security forces are actively working to restore order and protect lives and property. This operation is part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal structures and promote lasting peace in the state.
