Okonkwo also revealed that recent discussions between Atiku and key ADC leaders have focused on safeguarding the interests of the South-East geopolitical zone. Despite the constraints imposed by the Electoral Act, 2026, he affirmed that the South-East’s concerns have been addressed and guaranteed within the party’s framework. “At a dialogue with HE AA and other well-meaning members of the African Democratic Congress, the interests of the South-East have been discussed and guaranteed within the existing challenges posed by the Electoral Act, 2026, and the realities on the ground,” he stated.

He acknowledged the pivotal roles played by Dr. Kashim Imam, former ADC National Chairman, and Dr. Ekene Onwuka, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, in strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections. Okonkwo also extended his thanks to his family, supporters, and friends for their prayers and encouragement, which he said were instrumental in his appointment. “My sincere gratitude to my family, fans, and friends for their support and prayers, which God answered in covering my errors and colouring my efforts to pave way for this appointment,” he wrote.

Okonkwo concluded by seeking continued prayers for wisdom, courage, and protection as he takes on the challenging role. “I still covet your prayers for wisdom, courage, provision, and protection needed to carry out this challenging post, which will usher in a glorious and great Nigeria,” he said. His appointment signals a strategic effort by Atiku to unify party factions and strengthen regional representation, particularly in the South-East, as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections.
