Nigerians Must Prioritize Visionary Leadership in 2027

Nigerian cleric David Ibiyeomie has issued a strong call for Nigerians to take leadership selection seriously ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging voters to choose candidates with clear vision and a genuine commitment to national development. In a public address that has drawn widespread attention, he warned that poor political choices could push the country’s economy into deeper crisis, citing the dramatic depreciation of the naira as evidence of mismanagement. He emphasized that the naira, which was valued at around 100 to the dollar seven years ago, has now fallen to 610, and could reach 2000 if voters continue to support leaders without vision or integrity.

Ibiyeomie stressed that citizens must move beyond party loyalty and instead evaluate candidates based on their track record, policy proposals, and long-term plans for the nation. He criticized politicians who frequently switch parties for personal gain, describing their actions as morally bankrupt and damaging to democratic values. “Once this party doesn’t favour them, they jump to another party,” he said, using a blunt analogy to highlight the lack of ideological commitment among many political figures. He warned that such transactional politics undermines national unity and weakens public trust in governance.

The cleric also condemned the practice of offering money to influence voters, calling it a modern-day version of Esau selling his birthright for a single meal. He urged Nigerians to resist financial inducements and to vote based on principle, national interest, and spiritual guidance. “You can’t influence me at my age,” he declared. “Which money will you give me that will influence me? I know who I will vote. I will just pray and pray and ask God who will deliver this country?” He made it clear that his remarks were not partisan, but rooted in his role as a religious leader concerned about Nigeria’s future.

He further argued that leaders with vision can transform the lives of millions, while those driven by personal gain only deepen suffering. “When you share money to the hands of few, the man with vision turns the life of everyone,” he said. He reiterated that he is not affiliated with any political party and is not campaigning for any candidate. His message, he insisted, is one of truth and moral responsibility. As Nigeria prepares for its next electoral cycle, Ibiyeomie’s words serve as a powerful reminder that the choices made at the ballot box will shape the nation’s economic and political trajectory for years to come.
