The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted a major anti-drug operation across the Federal Capital Territory, arresting 132 suspects and seizing 220 kilograms of illegal substances between April 11 and April 25, 2026. The operation, carried out in collaboration with the FCT Strategic Command, targeted known drug hotspots in Abuja and surrounding areas, disrupting key networks involved in drug trafficking and abuse. Intelligence gathering and surveillance preceded the raids, which focused on areas identified as hubs for illicit drug distribution.
Officers from the NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation conducted coordinated raids in multiple locations, including Torabora Hills, Area 3, Gwarinpa, AYA, Durumi, Banex, Dei-Dei, Kubwa, Apo, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Wuse Zone 4, Garki Area 10, Jabi, and the Suleja axis. These zones were selected based on patterns of drug-related crimes and frequent sightings of illegal substances being sold or stored. The agency confirmed that the raids successfully dismantled several drug distribution points and arrested individuals linked to trafficking and consumption.
Among the substances recovered were large quantities of skunk, a potent form of cannabis, as well as prescription and recreational drugs such as Diazepam, Exol, Tramadol, Mogadon, cocaine, Rohypnol, methamphetamine, Ecstasy, and bottles of codeine syrup. The total weight of all seized materials amounted to 220 kilograms, marking one of the largest drug hauls in Abuja in recent months. The operation also involved confrontations in some areas, particularly in Durumi Area 1 and the Suleja market axis, where suspects resisted arrest. However, NDLEA officers maintained control, ensuring no casualties occurred during the exercise.
Ahmed Sule Ningi, Director of Operations and General Investigation, briefed NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa on the successful outcome of the operation. He commended the officers for their professionalism, coordination, and bravery, emphasizing that sustained efforts are necessary to maintain the gains made. Marwa, in response, praised the team for their commitment to clearing drug activities from the capital and its environs. He also directed that the same operational strategy be replicated in other major cities across Nigeria to strengthen the national fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
This crackdown underscores the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to enforcing drug laws and protecting public health. The agency’s actions have not only disrupted illegal drug networks but also sent a strong message to traffickers and users alike. As the government continues to prioritize drug control, similar operations are expected to expand nationwide, reinforcing efforts to curb the growing menace of substance abuse in Nigeria.
