Nigerian singer Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM near the Oke-Fia area, close to the Osun State Government House. B-Red, who is the son of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was returning from Alekuwodo market when he was suddenly surrounded and chased by a group of suspected hoodlums. The attackers included motorcycle riders wearing AMBO caps and a white Toyota Venza that joined the pursuit, attempting to block his vehicle.
As B-Red tried to escape, the chase intensified with both the car and the motorcycles following his jeep closely. He managed to reach the gate of the Osun State Government House, where he found temporary safety. During the ordeal, he identified one of the suspects as Asiri Eniba, whom he described as a known political thug. B-Red recounted the incident, saying, “As I went out to buy some stuff around Alekuwodo market, I saw some Okada riders with AMBO caps trying to surround my vehicle at a traffic point under Okefia Bridge. As we tried to move out, we saw a white Toyota Venza approaching, and someone shouted that it was me.”
He continued, “As we moved, the Toyota Venza pursued us, trying to block my jeep, while multiple motorcycles also joined in the chase. The pursuit continued until we got to the gate of the Osun State Government House, Oke-Fia, and we identified one of the occupants of the vehicle to be Asiri Eniba.” The singer has since reported the incident to the police, and an investigation is currently underway.
In response, the Osun State Government has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect. The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, issued a statement urging security agencies to act swiftly and ensure justice is served. He emphasized the need for swift action to maintain peace and security in the state, especially given the high-profile nature of the victim.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and political observers, raising questions about security in Osogbo and the potential for political violence. B-Red’s survival has been attributed to his quick thinking and the proximity of the government house, which provided a safe haven. Authorities are now working to trace the suspects and recover the white Toyota Venza involved in the chase. This event underscores the ongoing challenges to public safety and the need for enhanced security measures in the region.
