A Nigerian man has accused senior leaders of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), including its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, of making his life difficult since 2023, sparking widespread debate online. The man, who claims to have been a dedicated member of the church since 2013, alleges that his treatment changed after joining the workers’ unit in Ibadan. He says he has faced isolation, false accusations, and reputational damage, which he attributes to church authorities.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, shared his story in a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that he first joined RCCG while still in higher institution and remained actively involved in church activities for over a decade. Although he noticed certain practices he found ungodly, he chose to remain silent because they did not directly affect him at the time.
He revealed that his difficulties began when he faced financial challenges and could no longer contribute as generously as before. He claimed that a wealthy church member once offered to assist him financially, but the arrangement collapsed after a pastor allegedly told the donor he was involved in internet fraud and theft. “A rich man in the church wanted to help me, but the pastor allegedly told him I was into yahoo and stealing,” he said in the video.
The man further alleged that after this incident, he started facing problems in various RCCG branches. He claimed his picture was circulated without consent, and false narratives were spread to damage his reputation. “They told different kinds of lies and tried to manipulate people against me,” he stated, expressing frustration over the treatment he received from church leadership.
His claims have generated mixed reactions on social media. Some users have called for evidence to back his allegations, while others have expressed concern about potential internal conflicts within religious institutions. Critics have questioned the credibility of his story, while supporters urge RCCG to address the matter transparently.
As of now, the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Pastor Enoch Adeboye have not issued any official statement or response to the allegations. The case has drawn attention to issues of accountability and transparency within religious organizations in Nigeria. This incident may prompt further discussions on how churches handle internal disputes and protect the rights of their members.
