Barau FC, Kano, have confirmed the signing of 14 new players during the current transfer window as coach Eugene Agagbe builds a stronger squad ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which is expected to begin in August. The Kano-based club is making significant moves to improve their performance after finishing eighth in their debut NPFL campaign with 52 points from 38 matches — 13 wins, 13 draws, and 12 losses. The new signings span all departments, reflecting a comprehensive effort to strengthen the team across defense, midfield, and attack.
Leading the new arrivals is Christian Egbutudike, who returns to the Nigerian top flight after playing for Albanian club FK Kukesi. Also joining is Al-Amin Umar, who previously featured for Egyptian second-tier side Telecom FC. These signings highlight Barau FC’s ambition to bring in experienced players with international exposure to elevate their competitive edge.
Defensive reinforcements include Elvis Obuko, a central defender arriving from Warri Wolves, and Idris Sa’idu, who joins from Niger Tornadoes. Defender Daddy Abdulrahman has also moved to Barau FC from El-Kanemi Warriors, adding depth to the backline. In midfield, the club has secured Stephen Wisdom and Energy Kennedy from Bayelsa United, while Ahmad Liman arrives from Niger Tornadoes and Casmir Azubuike joins from Abia Warriors.
Attacking options have been bolstered with the signings of Anthony Omaka from Rivers United, Ajina Boluwatife from ABS Ilorin, and Suur Kumaga from Lobi Stars. Forward Adekunle Oluwasegun Samuel comes from Nasarawa United, and former Wikki Tourists midfielder Nasiru Jubrin has also returned to the club, adding experience and leadership.
Dominic Iorfa, former Super Eagles forward and now General Manager of Barau FC, told Completesports.com that preparations for the upcoming season began three weeks ago. “We’ve brought in quite a number of new players, and now we’re trying to blend them together so we can present a better and stronger team for the season,” he said. The club’s focus is on cohesion and tactical readiness as they aim to build on their solid debut season and challenge for higher positions in the NPFL table.
