Wike Appoints New Aide on Procurement to Oversee Government Contracts and Enhance Transparency

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has appointed Alhaji Onsachi Musa Idris as Senior Special Assistant on Procurement, marking a significant transition in the FCT Administration’s leadership structure. The appointment took effect immediately on April 24, 2026, the same day Idris retired from the civil service after a distinguished career spanning over three decades. His new role comes as part of the FCT Minister’s ongoing efforts to strengthen procurement oversight and administrative efficiency in the nation’s capital.

Before his retirement, Idris served as Director of Procurement in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, a position he held since July 2021. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing all procurement activities, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and upholding transparency in public spending. His appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Procurement reflects his proven track record in public service and his deep understanding of procurement systems.

According to a statement released by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Idris has held several key positions throughout his career. He began his journey in public service in August 2019 as Director of Common Services, where he oversaw procurement operations. His performance in that role led to his promotion to head the Department of Procurement in 2021, where he further refined processes and reinforced accountability.

Idris’s extensive experience in administration, finance, and procurement management has positioned him as a valuable asset to the FCT Administration. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to due process, ethical standards, and operational excellence. Over the years, he has contributed significantly to streamlining procurement procedures and improving service delivery within the public sector.

The appointment underscores the FCT Minister’s focus on continuity and expertise in managing public resources. With Idris now in his new role, stakeholders expect enhanced oversight and greater efficiency in procurement activities across the Federal Capital Territory. His transition from civil servant to special assistant highlights the government’s strategy to retain experienced personnel in key advisory positions.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Dan Ulasi, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed concern over the party’s current state during an appearance on Arise News on Thursday. He stated that the PDP faces serious challenges, though he did not elaborate on specific issues. His remarks come amid ongoing debates about the party’s direction and leadership.

As the FCT Administration welcomes Alhaji Onsachi Musa Idris into his new role, attention turns to how his expertise will shape procurement policies and public service delivery in Abuja. His appointment is expected to bring stability and professionalism to one of the most critical functions of government operations.
