Kwara United Football Club has unveiled 16 new players ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, signaling a major squad overhaul aimed at challenging for both the league title and the Federation Cup. The unveiling took place on Wednesday at the club’s secretariat in Ilorin, with the club also renewing the contracts of 14 key players who featured in the previous campaign. Executive Chairman of the club’s Management Committee, Kumbi Titiloye, emphasized that the new signings were carefully chosen to address gaps left by players whose contracts expired or who moved on to other opportunities.
Kumbi stated that the club’s primary objective for the upcoming season is to finish at the top of the NPFL table and win every available trophy. “We want to win the NPFL title and reclaim the President Federation Cup,” he declared, underscoring the team’s ambition. He also assured fans and stakeholders that the shortcomings of the previous season have been thoroughly addressed, promising a more determined and disciplined approach to every match. “We are treating every game like a World Cup final. The mistakes of last season will not be repeated,” he added.
The new signings include goalkeepers Stanley Victor from Kada City and Ouattara Khalifa from Alemas FC in Mali. In defense, the club welcomed Ferinyaro Ali (Kada City), Peace Dewan (Bendel Insurance), Ada Adamu (Barau FC), and Uche Daniel (Yobe Desert Stars). The midfield sees the addition of Anthony Nnamdi (Bendel Insurance) and Emmanuel Ekpeyong (ASEAMI FC). The attack has been bolstered with strikers Obed Ponkap (Barau FC), Ajibola Ayomade (Ikorodu City), Solomon Shoola (Abraysports), Benjamin Jack (Nasarawa United), Sanni Mohammed (ACAS FA), Thomas Omokhafe (Kada City), Jerry Alex (Rangers), and Gideon Chukwu Stephen (Doma United).
Meanwhile, 14 players have had their contracts renewed, including goalkeeper Ayeleso Suraj, Mohammed Alao, Alegbe Muhammed, Kolawole Sheriff, Adeshina Issa Gata, Jeremiah Gabriel Abutu, Okoloko Otega, Ezenabo Somtochwuku, Toyeeb Gidado, Abdulsalam Abdulsalam, Ozoh Philip, Nurudeen Badmus, Nyebe Moses, and Issa Magaji. These retained players are expected to form the backbone of the squad as the club pushes for success in the new season.
Kumbi also commended the Kwara State Government under Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara State Sports Commission for their continued support and investment in the club. With a strengthened squad and clear ambitions, Kwara United is poised to make a strong impact in the 2026/27 NPFL season, aiming to return to the top of Nigerian football.
