The alleged first wife of late Nollywood icon Mr Ibu, John Okafor, has publicly accused his widow, Stella Maris Okafor, of mismanaging his estate and selling his properties, adding fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding the actor’s legacy. Her claims come after Stella and her children recently appealed for financial help, stating they had been without electricity for two months and were fetching water from a well. The woman, who identified herself as Mr Ibu’s first wife in a viral video, said Stella’s actions have left the family in dire straits and accused her of sidelining other family members during the late actor’s illness and after his death.
She alleged that while Mr Ibu was hospitalized, Stella had her first son and adopted daughter, Jasmine Okafor, arrested over disputes regarding funds donated by Nigerians for his medical treatment. According to her, the two were responsible for managing the donations, but Stella took control and allegedly used the money for personal gain. The first wife claimed that after Mr Ibu’s passing, Stella sold several of his properties, including a house in Enugu valued at approximately ₦18 million. She also accused Stella of misleading the family by claiming water damage necessitated moving out of Mr Ibu’s Lagos residence, when in reality, she was planning to sell the property.
The woman further stated that the proceeds from these sales, along with other funds, were spent by Stella and her inner circle, leaving the rest of the family financially vulnerable. She described Stella’s current situation as “karma,” suggesting that even if the public donates again, Stella will eventually return to seek help. Her remarks have reignited public interest in the handling of Mr Ibu’s estate, with multiple family members now making conflicting claims about the distribution of his assets.
Stella Maris Okafor has not yet responded publicly to these fresh allegations, despite the growing scrutiny. The controversy has drawn attention from social media users, influencers, and members of the entertainment industry, who are closely watching how the situation unfolds. The dispute over Mr Ibu’s estate highlights the complexities of family dynamics and inheritance in Nigeria, especially when public donations are involved. As more details emerge, the story continues to unfold, raising questions about transparency and accountability in managing the legacy of a beloved national figure.
