A missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and legal practitioner, Linda Ameh, has been found safe in Abuja after being reported missing on May 6, 2026. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed her return in a statement issued on Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh. Ameh personally visited the Maitama Police Station to provide details about her abduction and is now assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible. The police are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the incident.
Ameh, who was working as a Sales Manager at Blades and Butchers Ltd in Maitama, disappeared shortly after leaving work around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. She was reportedly on her way home to Life Camp when her phone went off and remained unreachable. Family members made multiple attempts to contact her through both her phone lines, but all calls went unanswered. Her disappearance was immediately reported to the Maitama Division of the FCT Police Command and to the NYSC authorities.
The case gained widespread attention after her family disclosed that suspected abductors had contacted them demanding ₦20 million for her release. The ransom demand sparked public concern over her safety, prompting calls for swift action from security agencies. Despite the demand, it remains unclear whether any payment was made before her return. The police have not revealed the location where Ameh was found or the exact circumstances surrounding her release.
According to the police statement, Ameh is cooperating fully with investigators and providing crucial information that may help trace the abductors. The FCT Police Command emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that they are committed to ensuring justice is served. Adeh had previously confirmed that a full investigation was launched immediately after the report of her disappearance, with police operatives deployed to trace her whereabouts and determine how the incident occurred.
Ameh was close to completing her NYSC service, including her final Community Development Service activities, when she was abducted. Her return has brought relief to her family and colleagues, but questions remain about the security situation in Abuja and the vulnerability of young professionals. The police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to release more details about the case and the steps being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
