Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has ignited a social media storm after clashing with content creator Carter Efe over dining etiquette, following a dinner event that included businessman E-Money and singer Kcee. The heated exchange began when E-Money jokingly commented on Famakin’s fork usage during the meal, suggesting he should be more mindful before judging others. Carter Efe, who had prepared the food, added his own remark, saying “that is how poor people do,” a statement that quickly sparked outrage online.
Famakin responded in a video posted on his Instagram, where he sharply rebuked Efe for what he described as disrespect. He accused the content creator of having body odour and insisted he stood by his earlier comments. In a controversial twist, Famakin offered to give Efe a perfume worth approximately ₦45,000 as a “gift,” while also warning him not to meddle in conversations that don’t concern him. He even added a joking threat, implying he could physically confront Efe if necessary.
During the video, Famakin praised E-Money, calling him the wealthiest person at the table, and used the opportunity to explain proper dining etiquette. He emphasized that using only a fork is acceptable for eating rice, while both fork and knife should be used for meat and other dishes. He also took the moment to promote a fragrance product, blending personal commentary with subtle advertising.
This is not the first time Famakin has publicly criticized members of the dining group. Earlier, he called out singer Kcee after a viral video showed the artist eating on a plane, where he again commented on Kcee’s cutlery technique. Famakin’s critiques often focus on table manners and cultural norms around food consumption, making him a polarizing figure in Nigerian social media circles.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting Famakin’s stance on etiquette and others criticizing his tone and choice of words. The exchange highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping public discourse around personal behavior and cultural expectations in Nigeria. As debates over manners and class continue to surface online, Famakin’s latest comments are likely to fuel further discussion in the coming days.
