Troops Foil Fresh Terrorist Attack in Kaduna State

Troops under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully repelled a suspected terrorist attack in Jarhawa village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on April 29 at approximately 4:30 p.m. The attack, which targeted civilians, was swiftly countered by military personnel stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni. Security sources confirmed that the troops responded immediately after receiving a distress call from the community, moving rapidly to the scene and forcing the attackers to flee upon sighting the advancing forces. One civilian sustained gunshot injuries during the incident but was promptly treated by security operatives upon their arrival.

The development was shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on Thursday, providing further details on the military’s response and the current security situation. Makama stated that normalcy has been restored in Jarhawa village, with troops maintaining a strong presence to deter further attacks. Authorities are currently conducting search operations to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure the safety of residents in the area. The swift military intervention is seen as a critical step in preventing escalation in a region that has faced recurring security challenges.

Meanwhile, a faction of Boko Haram known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad has announced that its 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government has expired. The group, which has been holding several civilians captive in Borno State, declared that it is now prepared to begin executing captives if negotiations are not resumed. In a video message, a spokesperson for the group emphasized that the deadline has passed and that there is “no discussion” left. The group dismissed previous ransom offers as unofficial and stated that financial incentives will not influence its decisions.

The insurgents also issued a stern warning against any military rescue attempts, claiming such actions could result in additional civilian casualties. They further mocked government efforts to address the crisis and directed threats at public figures, heightening concerns over the safety of abducted individuals. The expiration of the ultimatum has intensified pressure on security agencies and government officials to find a resolution, as the threat of violence against hostages looms large.

The simultaneous developments in Kaduna and Borno underscore the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in the North-West and North-East regions. As military operations continue in Chikun and negotiations remain stalled in Borno, the government faces mounting pressure to protect civilians and restore lasting peace. The situation remains fluid, with security forces and intelligence agencies working to prevent further attacks and secure the release of captives.
