Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) will honour its football legends during home matches in the upcoming 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, starting in August, as part of a new recognition programme launched in partnership with the Pillar of Sports and Youth Development Foundation. The initiative aims to celebrate retired players who made significant contributions to the club between 1980 and 1990, a golden era that saw 3SC rise to national prominence. The programme will see two former legends invited to selected home games, where they will be recognised during halftime with a customised jersey, a ₦50,000 cash award, and a special appreciation gift.
The proposal was championed by Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, Founder and Chairman of the Pillar of Sports and Youth Development Foundation, who described the effort as a heartfelt tribute to the heroes who built the foundation of 3SC’s legacy. He emphasized that football legends deserve recognition while they are still alive, noting that their sacrifices and achievements should continue to inspire current and future players. “Their dedication, discipline, and passion defined the club’s golden era,” Obideyi said, adding that the programme seeks to preserve football history and celebrate excellence.
The initiative has received official approval from 3SC’s Executive Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami, who praised it as a thoughtful and timely gesture. Salami commended the Foundation for creating a meaningful way to honour the club’s icons, revive cherished memories, and acknowledge the immense contributions of players who elevated the image of Shooting Stars Sports Club, Oyo State, and Nigeria on both domestic and continental stages. He noted that the programme strengthens the bond between the club and its history, ensuring that the pioneers are never forgotten.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment between 3SC and the Pillar of Sports Foundation to preserve the club’s heritage and inspire the next generation of footballers. By spotlighting the achievements of past legends, the initiative aims to rekindle a culture of honouring sporting heroes and promote values like dedication and teamwork. The recognition events will take place at Lekan Salami Stadium, the club’s home ground, where fans will have the opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the Oluyole Warriors.
