The mother of 24-year-old civil engineer Abdulsamad Jamiu, who was allegedly shot dead by soldiers in his bedroom in Kubwa, Abuja, on Saturday, April 26, 2026, has publicly demanded justice for her son. Habibat Abubakar, his mother, described the incident as a tragic and senseless loss, calling for urgent intervention from national and international authorities. She was in Okene, Kogi State, attending a burial and firdau prayers with her husband when the shooting occurred, and only learned of her son’s death upon returning to the family compound in Abuja. The emotional shock was overwhelming—she fainted after being told the truth.
Abdulsamad, affectionately known as Kesh, was reportedly killed in the early hours of the morning inside his bedroom. His mother expressed deep anguish over the circumstances surrounding his death, questioning the soldiers’ actions. She asked, “Why did they jump my fence? Why did they enter my son’s room? Why did they kill him? Why did they call the vigilance team to come and mop his blood? Why did they instruct them to go and bury my son’s brains?” Her questions reflect a family’s desperate search for answers and accountability.
Habibat described her son as a responsible and devout young man who never compromised his five daily prayers. She emphasized that he had a bright future ahead, with clear plans for his own life and for supporting his siblings and mother. “He was straightforward. He had a bright future. He had plans for himself, for his siblings, for his mother. And just like that, his dream was cut off right in his room,” she said, her voice heavy with grief.
She has now appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, his wife Sefiya, human rights activists, and Amnesty International to step in and ensure justice. “This fight is too big for me. This pain is too big for me to bear,” she pleaded, underscoring the emotional toll of losing a child under such violent and mysterious circumstances.
Abdulsamad Jamiu is survived by his parents, his sister Farida, and his younger siblings. He was laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery in Kubwa, where mourners gathered to pay their respects. The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for transparency, especially given the lack of official information from security agencies. As investigations remain pending, the family continues to seek answers, and the nation watches closely, hoping for justice in a case that has shaken many.
