Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has revealed her decision to stop helping anyone in the music industry, citing repeated betrayals, toxic relationships, and spiritual attacks that have deeply affected her personally and professionally. The veteran artist, known for her powerful vocals and contributions to gospel music, shared these painful experiences in a candid account that highlights the emotional toll of misplaced trust within the entertainment space. Her decision marks a significant shift in her approach to mentorship and support, as she reflects on past relationships that once seemed promising but ultimately turned destructive.
Alabi recounted how she once hosted and supported a talented female artist and her husband in her home, providing them with resources and opportunities to grow their music careers. The woman had already recorded two albums under Alabi’s roof, with the same producer who worked on Alabi’s own projects. However, the husband’s controlling and toxic behavior created a hostile environment. He refused to support his wife’s musical development, insisting it was forbidden for a man to assist his wife with instruments like the guitar or drums. Despite his refusal to contribute, he demanded a luxurious lifestyle while living under Alabi’s roof, leading to constant tension and conflict.
“I never knew these people are so dramatic,” Alabi said. “This husband became so toxic and never wanted to help but wanted to be living a big man lifestyle under our roof and even wanted to cause problems in my home. I had to beg them to leave our house then.” After they left, the woman’s music career declined sharply. “That was how the glory of that talented lady went off,” Alabi lamented.
She also spoke of another couple who turned against her completely, ganging up on her in a way she described as “so terrible.” A third group, whom she once helped, allegedly aligned themselves with her enemies after she asked them to leave her home. “While the third people were all out to kpai me, immediately I asked them to leave, they went straight to my enemy’s house and started living with my enemy and even told them my prayer point and how I used to pray against my enemies,” she revealed.
The situation escalated into serious spiritual battles, with Alabi claiming she and her family were targeted with “different arrows” aimed at destroying her. “This last set wanted to kpai me if not for God behind and my family,” she said. “Different arrows were shot at me but I thank God, the Lord rescued me and my family.”
Following these traumatic encounters, Alabi made a firm personal decision: she will never help anyone again in the music industry. “That was when I came to the conclusion that I will never help anyone again in this industry because most people are evil,” she stated. Her words serve as a cautionary tale for others in the industry, underscoring the need for vigilance and discernment in relationships. As the gospel music scene continues to evolve, Alabi’s experience highlights the hidden challenges artists face beyond the spotlight.
