Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a significant development in Nigeria’s higher education administration. The appointment, announced on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, positions Professor Aina to succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026. This move underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and integrity of Nigeria’s university admission processes through digital innovation and institutional reform.

Professor Aina, a distinguished academic and systems expert, brings over 15 years of experience in digital transformation, public sector reform, and national examination frameworks. He is a Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. He further earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. His credentials are complemented by the Senior Management Programme he completed at the Lagos Business School.

The Presidency highlighted his extensive advisory work with federal and state governments, particularly in designing digital systems and improving institutional effectiveness. He has also consulted for key examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), contributing significantly to the development of ICT infrastructure and examination integrity systems. His expertise in digital signal processing and network security positions him well to lead JAMB into a more secure and efficient digital era.

Professor Aina is a member of several prestigious professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). These affiliations reflect his strong commitment to engineering excellence and technological advancement in Nigeria.

At 40 years old, Professor Aina is seen as a young but highly accomplished leader in education technology and public-sector reform. President Tinubu expressed confidence in his ability to build on the achievements of Professor Oloyede, who has led JAMB with notable success over the past years. The President expects Professor Aina to leverage his practical insight and technical knowledge to elevate JAMB’s operations and ensure a seamless, transparent, and technologically advanced admission process for Nigerian students.

This appointment is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector and reinforce public trust in the national examination system, setting the stage for continued improvements in access and quality of higher education.
