Stanley Ontop Slams Mr Ibus Wife Over N66M, Defends Influencer King Mitchy

Nigerian film producer Stanley Ontop has sparked controversy after publicly criticizing Stella Marris, the widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor (Mr Ibu), over a viral video in which she appealed for financial assistance. In the video, shared with influencer King Mitchy, Stella disclosed her struggles to pay rent, electricity bills, and school fees, revealing that her children had been forced out of school due to financial hardship. The emotional appeal quickly gained widespread attention on social media, prompting reactions from various quarters, including Ontop, who questioned the timing and legitimacy of her plea.

In an Instagram video posted on June 25, Stanley Ontop expressed disbelief that Stella would seek public donations just two years after Mr Ibu’s death. He alleged that the actor had left behind approximately N66 million in his bank account and demanded transparency on how the funds were managed. “How can you come out after two years since your husband died and you’re asking people to contribute money for you? For what? This man died and left 66 million naira in his bank account. Where is the money?” Ontop asked, raising concerns about the accountability of the deceased actor’s estate.

He further claimed that a significant amount—over N30 million—was raised during Mr Ibu’s burial and later withdrawn after the funeral. According to Ontop, the funds were not properly accounted for. “You kept that money until they finished the burial. You go cash out the money, share it with maybe your family and your friends… Where is the money?” he stated, implying mismanagement or possible misuse of the donations.

Ontop also accused Stella of selling multiple properties belonging to Mr Ibu, including eight plots of land in Asaba for N16 million, properties in Enugu for over N18 million, and a house in Askamaya, Lagos, for more than N60 million. “You sold Mr Ibu’s property… over 8 plots of land in Asaba for 16 million. You sold property in Enugu for over 18 million. The house in Askamaya… you sold it for over 60 million naira. Where is the money?” he alleged, questioning the whereabouts of the proceeds.

Despite his criticism, Ontop defended King Mitchy, praising her for her consistent charitable work and urging the public to stop targeting her. “I don’t blame King Mitchy… she’s really helping a lot of Nigerians who need help,” he said, emphasizing that the focus should be on the estate’s management rather than the influencer.

The controversy has drawn mixed reactions online, with some users supporting Ontop’s call for accountability, while others defend Stella’s right to seek help. As the debate continues, the case has reignited discussions about transparency in managing the estates of public figures in Nigeria. The outcome of this public scrutiny may influence how future cases of celebrity inheritance are handled.
