Opeyemi Aiyeola Urges Celebrities to Use Platforms to Speak Out on Oyo School Tragedy

Nollywood veteran actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has urged celebrities, traditional rulers, and influential Nigerians to speak out against the escalating insecurity in Oyo State and across Yorubaland, following a brutal attack in Oriire Local Government Area where gunmen kidnapped students and teachers, and later killed one of the educators. The incident, which occurred recently, has sent shockwaves through the region and prompted Aiyeola to use her platform to call for urgent action from public figures. In a powerful video shared on her Instagram page on May 19, she emphasized that while many are preoccupied with election activities, the growing security crisis cannot be ignored.

Aiyeola stressed that the violence is no longer distant or abstract—it is happening close to home, affecting communities directly. She pointed out that the crisis is spreading rapidly and that more people are living in fear each day. “This is closer to home than expected,” she said, urging those with influence to use their voices to bring attention to the plight of ordinary citizens. She noted that many public figures are currently focused on political campaigns, but the security situation demands immediate attention and collective responsibility.

In her appeal, Aiyeola specifically named several prominent figures, including the Ooni of Ife, the Olubadan, Lagos monarchs, entertainers like Lege Miami, Eniola Badmus, Laide Bakare, Desmond Elliot, Funke Akindele, and Toyin Abraham. She asked them to use their platforms, connections, and influence to raise awareness and advocate for solutions. “Please lend your platform, lend your voices,” she pleaded, emphasizing that silence in the face of such violence is not an option.

She also directly addressed President Bola Tinubu, urging him to take decisive action. “President Tinubu, please do something. This is too sad,” she said, expressing deep concern for the safety of children, teachers, and families across the region. Aiyeola’s message resonated with many, highlighting the growing frustration among Nigerians who feel abandoned by both leaders and influencers during this critical time.

The attack in Oriire, where armed men stormed schools and abducted students and staff, has become a symbol of the worsening insecurity in the Southwest. The killing of a teacher has further intensified public outrage and fear. Aiyeola’s call to action reflects a broader demand for accountability and intervention from all levels of society. As the situation continues to deteriorate, her appeal serves as a reminder that every voice matters in the fight for peace and security. The hope is that her words will inspire more public figures to step forward and help turn the tide against violence.
