The Nigeria National League (NNL) has officially announced Owerri, Imo State, as the host city for its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Friday, 21st August 2026. This key event will serve as a precursor to the upcoming 2026/2027 football season and will bring together top officials from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), including President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi. The decision to hold the AGM in Owerri was confirmed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, who expressed gratitude to Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for his approval and support.
Governor Uzodimma’s endorsement marks a significant moment for sports development in the Eastern Heartland, as the NNL AGM is one of the most important gatherings in the country’s football calendar. Alanana highlighted the governor’s deep commitment to sports and youth empowerment, noting that Imo State continues to produce numerous talented athletes across various disciplines. “We are delighted that the sports-loving Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has magnanimously approved NNL’s request to host our AGM in Owerri,” he stated.
All 36 NNL clubs have been instructed to prepare for the event, with plans to arrive in Owerri on Thursday, 20th August, and depart on Saturday, 22nd August 2026. While the exact venue within Owerri will be communicated later, the league has emphasized the importance of adhering to the confirmed dates. The AGM will focus on critical matters such as the roadmap for the 2026/2027 season, club licensing regulations, and potential amendments to existing NNL rules and regulations.
This year’s gathering follows the 16th NNL AGM, which was hosted by Kaduna State Government at the 5th Chukker Resort in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State. The shift to Owerri reflects the league’s effort to rotate hosting responsibilities across different regions, ensuring equitable participation and engagement. As the NNL continues to strengthen its structure and governance, the 2026 AGM in Owerri is expected to set the tone for a more organized and competitive season ahead.
