Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to justice and the rule of law, declaring that no one, including his own family, will be spared if found guilty of a crime. The governor made this strong statement during a courtesy visit by Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to the Government House in Osogbo on Friday. His remarks came amid allegations that criminal suspects were being sheltered within the Government House, a claim he firmly denied. Adeleke emphasized that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward criminality and expects security agencies to act without fear or favour.
During the meeting, Adeleke addressed concerns raised by the IGP regarding the alleged protection of wanted suspects by state officials. He dismissed the claims as baseless and reiterated his support for law enforcement. “If you see any of my people that committed a crime, arrest them. If it is my son who committed a crime, arrest him, let him learn his lesson, and that is what I am saying in front of the IGP,” the governor stated. His words underscored a clear message: justice must be served regardless of social or political connections.
The governor also criticized what he described as unprofessional conduct within the police force, particularly the alleged transfer of an officer who successfully arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu. He questioned the rationale behind the officer’s redeployment, suggesting it undermined morale and discouraged integrity. “But for you to be playing all these games and everything like that, the person that they killed, a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu, because the police officer did a good job under the directive of the Inspector General of Police and arrested the suspect that killed the boy, you transferred the officer,” Adeleke said.
Despite his criticism, Adeleke commended Inspector-General Disu for promoting discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force. He expressed confidence in the IGP’s leadership and welcomed his public stance against indiscipline and crime. “I am glad the Inspector General of Police is here today, and he has said it openly that he will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, and he has given you a warning that you will not tolerate crime. That is why I am happy,” he added.
The governor’s statements highlight a growing emphasis on accountability and transparency in both governance and security operations. As Osun State continues to grapple with security challenges, Adeleke’s firm stance sends a clear signal that no one is above the law. His call for impartial enforcement of justice may set a precedent for other state leaders across Nigeria.
