Clinton Ekubo, who claims to be a relative of late Nollywood actor Alex Ikenna Ekubo, has spoken out about the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death and burial, raising serious concerns about family dynamics and decision-making in the aftermath. In a detailed Facebook post, Clinton alleged that Alex’s stepmother played a dominant role in major life decisions, including his marriage and funeral arrangements, while sidelining his biological family. He stated that the stepmother arranged Alex’s marriage to her best friend’s daughter without informing or seeking consent from the Ekubo Okwareke family, which left them shocked when they later learned of the union.
According to Clinton, Alex gradually distanced himself from his biological relatives, becoming more aligned with his stepmother’s household. He claimed the actor attended family events on his stepmother’s side but showed no interest in gatherings involving his own blood relatives. Clinton also highlighted the lack of closeness between Alex and his biological sister, Chioma, who shares the same mother. He further alleged that Alex rejected his biological mother during his lifetime and refused to maintain any relationship with her, even though she is still alive.
The burial process, Clinton said, was rushed and conducted without the involvement of the Ekubo Okwareke family. He insisted that only he, as a family member, supervised the handling of Alex’s remains, while members of the stepmother’s family were heavily present, acting as if the event was their own. Clinton expressed concern over the medical details of Alex’s death, noting that he observed blood clots in the actor’s eyes during the funeral and heard reports that Alex was brought to the hospital already deceased. He called for transparency and an explanation from those involved in the burial and medical processes.
In his post, Clinton emphasized that the family was not informed of Alex’s illness before his death and only learned of it when the stepmother announced it publicly. He criticized the stepmother’s influence, saying she acted as if she had authority over the family’s affairs, even going as far as referring to her as “Mazi” — a title traditionally reserved for men in Arochukwu Kingdom, Abia State — to underscore her overreach. He also questioned the appropriateness of the family being asked to wear white for a 40-year-old man, a gesture he views as disrespectful.
Clinton concluded by demanding clarity and accountability from the stepmother and those who managed Alex’s burial, stressing that the Ekubo Okwareke family deserves answers. He stated that his post is not meant to seek personal gain but to bring transparency to what he sees as a troubling situation. As the Nollywood community continues to mourn Alex Ikenna Ekubo, questions about family, legacy, and decision-making in times of crisis remain at the forefront.
