Nigerian singer BNXN and acclaimed producer Sarz have officially released their collaborative EP, The Game Needs Us, a five-track project that has quickly gained traction on streaming platforms since its May 11, 2026, debut. The EP, entirely produced by Sarz, has already climbed to number two on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart, showcasing the strong anticipation and fan support for the duo’s reunion. This project follows the success of their lead single, “Back Outside,” which debuted at number one on Apple Music Nigeria and amassed over 22 million streams and two million video views in its first few weeks.
The collaboration between BNXN and Sarz feels like a natural progression, given their previous successful work together on tracks like “Gwagwalada” and “Pidgin & English.” These earlier songs laid the foundation for the creative synergy now fully realized in The Game Needs Us. The EP blends Afrofusion, Afrobeats, and contemporary pop elements, with tracks such as “Rum & Soda,” “Emotional High,” and “Frank Sinatra” exploring themes of love, emotional vulnerability, and nightlife culture. The project runs just over fifteen minutes, emphasizing quality and cohesion over length—a trend that aligns with the growing preference for concise, impactful releases in the streaming era.
BNXN described the EP as a reflection of both the current state and future direction of African music. “The Game Needs Us, just as the name implies,” he said. “This project brings together two of Nigeria’s greatest forces to deliver a refreshing yet reflective experience. To show the dynamics in the African sound and to give a feel of where the future of the sound is headed.” Sarz echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the collaboration allowed him to explore new sonic territories. “After ‘Gwagwalada’ and ‘Pidgin & English,’ it’s only right we continue that chemistry. Working on this record with him helped me explore some African and South American sonic themes,” he added.
This release marks BNXN’s first major project in nearly ten months since his album CAPTAIN, and Sarz’s first major effort since Protect Sarz At All Costs. Both artists have played pivotal roles in the global rise of Afrobeats. BNXN, formerly known as Buju, rose to fame after a viral freestyle caught the attention of Zlatan Ibile, leading to UK chart success, a Headies Next Rated award, and a string of acclaimed projects. Sarz, meanwhile, is one of the most respected producers in the genre, with production credits on major hits by Wizkid, Lojay, Burna Boy, and Wande Coal.
The Game Needs Us stands as a testament to the enduring power of Nigerian music and the creative synergy between its top talents. As Afrobeats continues to expand globally, collaborations like this one signal a new chapter in the genre’s evolution. The EP is available for streaming on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, and fans are already calling it a must-listen for anyone following the future of African sound.
