The City Boy Movement has strongly denounced a viral social media post falsely attributed to its patron, Seyi Tinubu, describing the claim as fake, malicious, and designed to incite religious tension. In a statement released on Monday, May 11, 2026, by O’tega Ogra, the Deputy Director-General for Communication and Public Affairs, the organization clarified that Seyi Tinubu never made the controversial remarks circulating online. The false statement, which surfaced on Facebook via a user named Albab Abdullahi, alleged that Seyi Tinubu said: “There is nothing that can stop my father from completing his eight years in power. Not even God is capable.” The movement dismissed the claim as entirely fabricated and misleading.
The City Boy Movement emphasized that the alleged statement was never uttered by Seyi Tinubu “at any time, in any place, through any channel or under any circumstance whatsoever.” The group further highlighted that its patron is a man of deep faith who believes that all authority and power come from God alone. According to the statement, Seyi Tinubu holds “deep reverence for Almighty God” and firmly believes that no human can attain or retain power without divine grace and permission. This stance directly contradicts the fabricated claim, which the movement said was intended to create unnecessary controversy and religious discord.
The viral post sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over the false narrative. Some users criticized the person behind the post, urging authorities to investigate and hold them accountable. Others defended Seyi Tinubu, calling the allegations baseless and dangerous. One commenter, Aruwa Akeem Opeyemi, questioned the credibility of the post, saying, “If he arrest the person and ask him to bring evidence them go say he use power.” Another user, Mukaila Olasupo, lamented the rising culture of falsehoods, stating, “The way people lies against someone nowadays is alarming knowing fully well the wraths of God Almighty on liars. It’s a pity.”
The City Boy Movement’s response aims to protect its patron’s reputation and prevent misinformation from spreading. The group urged the public to verify information before sharing and to reject content that promotes division. As Nigeria continues to navigate political discourse ahead of future elections, the incident underscores the growing influence of social media in shaping public opinion. The movement’s swift and clear rebuttal reflects its commitment to transparency and truth in the face of online misinformation. This incident will likely prompt further discussions on digital accountability and the ethical use of social media in Nigerian politics.
