Damilola Ayinde Marshall, daughter of legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), has received a strong endorsement from Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), for her bid to represent Surulere Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly. The endorsement came during a meeting where Damilola presented branded caps to Sego, a gesture seen as part of her political consultations ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries. Sego publicly urged party members and supporters to rally behind her, declaring that she is the only candidate capable of delivering for the constituency.
In a video shared via Snapchat, Sego emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in advancing Surulere’s development. He stated, “When it is primary election, please come out en masse and vote for Dami, Omo Anifowose. She is the only one who can do it. The progress of our Surulere is our collective responsibility. It is our time.” His words carry significant weight, given the NURTW’s influence in Lagos politics and its mobilization capacity among transport workers and grassroots supporters.
Damilola, currently serving as Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, formally announced her political ambition on Instagram. She highlighted her professional experience as a foundation for effective public service and representation. In her post, she described herself as part of a new generation of leaders dedicated to development, youth inclusion, and transformative governance. She wrote, “I am excited to share that I, Barr. Damilola Ayinde Marshall, am stepping forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly.”
She further emphasized her readiness to lead, stating, “I am a woman of excellence and results. I am ready to serve and lead. With my background, I am fully prepared and ready to fight for what truly matters.” Damilola also pledged to be the voice of the youth in the Assembly, underscoring her commitment to addressing the needs of younger Nigerians in policy-making. She added, “As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward.”
Her entry into politics adds a new dynamic to the APC’s primary race in Surulere, where youth engagement and development-focused leadership are increasingly becoming key themes. With the backing of a prominent labor leader and her own credentials in public service, Damilola’s campaign is poised to gain traction among voters seeking fresh leadership. As the APC primaries approach, her candidacy is expected to spark increased interest and mobilization within the constituency.
