Iorfa praised his players for their mental strength and physical effort, especially after enduring a harrowing journey from Owerri Airport to their hotel.
The team’s arrival in Owerri was marred by a serious incident involving their bus. After landing, the delegation encountered mechanical failure mid-transit, causing the vehicle to swerve dangerously across the road. “We flew into Owerri Airport on Saturday, but while driving from the airport, our bus developed a problem and zig-zagged from one side of the road to the other,” Iorfa recounted. Several players sustained injuries during the ordeal, though the club chose not to publicize the extent to avoid unnecessary concern. Despite these challenges, most of the squad played in the match with lingering knocks, showcasing their commitment to the cause.
Iorfa emphasized that the team’s ability to remain focused under pressure was crucial. “The players, however, remained strong and fought hard to secure a draw. We’re happy with the result,” he said. He also pointed out that luck played a role in preserving the clean sheet, noting that defenders cleared the ball off the line three times during the game. “No matter how good your team is or how well you play in a game, luck is also very important. Today, I think luck was on our side. Otherwise, one of those chances could have been converted.”
Barau FC also had a chance to win the match late in the second half. Winger Al Ameen Umar, who previously played for El-Kanemi Warriors and Telecom Egypt, came close to scoring when he fired narrowly over the crossbar. The opportunity slipped away, but Iorfa remained optimistic about the outcome. “We also had our chance to win, but it wasn’t to be. It wasn’t a bad result,” he concluded.
