Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie missed Bendel Insurance’s season opener against Warri Wolves on Sunday, 30 August, due to incomplete transfer paperwork, according to assistant coach Jolomi Atune. The 26-year-old shot-stopper, who played a key role in Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning campaign at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, had recently returned to his former club after a stint with Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars. His absence raised questions among fans, especially after Warri Wolves took an early lead following a goalkeeping error that left many wondering why Obasogie wasn’t on the pitch.
Atune, who represented head coach Kennedy Boboye at the post-match press conference, explained that Obasogie was still part of the squad but could not feature because of administrative delays. “He is still around with us. You know, he’s coming from a club outside of the country. So, time is needed to complete his paperwork and transfer formalities,” Atune said. The delay in finalizing his registration meant Obasogie was unavailable for selection despite being back in training with the team.

“We are still a work in progress,” Atune stated. “It will take some time for the new players to blend well with the rest of the squad.” He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to improve as the 2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL season progresses. “I am happy we got the important three points. When Warri Wolves scored very early, I remained positive because I knew we were going to come back and beat them. I believe in the boys we have.”
