Abia Warriors have confirmed they will play their home games during the 2026/2027 NPFL season at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, following renovations to their original home ground in Umuahia. The club is set to relocate to Aba shortly for a closed-door training camp ahead of the new campaign. Executive Chairman John Obuh, a former head coach of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles, made the announcement exclusively to Completesports.com on Wednesday evening.
Obuh explained that the decision stems from ongoing renovation works at the Umuahia stadium, which will not be ready in time for the upcoming season. “Our original home ground in Umuahia is undergoing renovation, so we’ll play our home games in the coming season at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba,” he stated. The team has just returned from a pre-season tournament and will soon enter a concentration camp in Aba, where they will also conduct their home matches.
The club is aiming for a stronger and more competitive performance in the 2026/2027 NPFL season. Obuh revealed that they are assembling a squad that balances youth and experience to enhance their chances of success. “We’ve carefully selected some young and talented players that we’ll add to the ones we retained at the close of last season,” he said. This strategic blend, he emphasized, will ensure the team can compete effectively when the season kicks off.
In the previous 2025/2026 NPFL season, Abia Warriors finished seventh with 55 points, having initially aimed for a top-three finish. Despite falling short of their initial target, the club remains focused on improvement and long-term growth. The move to Aba is part of broader efforts to stabilize operations and strengthen the team’s foundation.
With the Enyimba Stadium now serving as their temporary home base, Abia Warriors are positioning themselves for a more consistent and impactful campaign. The club’s leadership believes this temporary relocation, combined with a revamped squad, will lay the groundwork for future success in Nigerian football. As preparations intensify, fans and stakeholders are watching closely to see how the team adapts and performs under the new circumstances.
