NPFL: Elegbeleye Announces $7.5M Title Sponsorship Deal Ahead of 2026/27 Season

Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has announced that a new title sponsor will be unveiled before the commencement of the 2026/27 season, marking a significant development for Nigerian club football. Speaking during the Annual General Meeting of the NPFL in Ibadan on Friday, 7 August 2026, Elegbeleye confirmed that the sponsorship deal is valued at $7.5 million over three years. While he did not reveal the identity of the sponsor, he emphasized that the partnership would bring increased financial benefits to participating clubs.

The announcement comes as a major boost for the domestic top flight, which has been under the sponsorship of Bet9ja since December 2021. That arrangement began after the League Management Company (LMC) signed an agreement with the betting firm in September 2021. The upcoming change signals a shift in the league’s commercial strategy and reflects growing interest in Nigerian football from global brands. Elegbeleye stated that the new sponsor would enhance the league’s financial structure and ensure better returns for all stakeholders.

“We are going to have a title sponsor before the start of the season,” Elegbeleye said during the meeting. “What this means is that there is going to be more money for the clubs at the end.” He added that a press conference to officially unveil the sponsor would be held within the next two weeks, with media representatives invited to attend. This move is expected to elevate the profile of the NPFL both locally and internationally.

The $7.5 million deal represents a substantial investment in Nigerian football and underscores the league’s potential for growth. Increased funding could lead to improved player salaries, better infrastructure, and enhanced competition across the 20 teams. It also aligns with recent developments, including the announcement that champions of the 2026/27 season will receive a record N1 billion prize money, further incentivizing clubs to perform.

This sponsorship transition follows years of efforts to professionalize the NPFL and attract high-profile partners. With a new title sponsor on the horizon, the league is poised to strengthen its commercial operations and deliver greater value to clubs, players, and fans. The coming months will be crucial as the NPFL prepares for what could be one of its most financially rewarding seasons yet.
