Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has revealed the true reason behind his temporary exit from acting, citing severe burnout after eight years of nonstop work on over 300 film productions. In a heartfelt video shared on YouTube, Emodi apologized to his fans for his earlier announcement of quitting the movie industry, explaining that his decision was made during a period of emotional and physical exhaustion. He emphasized that acting remains his first love and that he never intended to abandon his craft permanently.
Emodi disclosed that he worked continuously from 2017 until the end of 2023 without taking any vacations or proper rest. During that time, he appeared in feature films, television series, and short films, amassing more than 300 credits. “I acted since 2017 till last year ending. That’s about 300 productions… Eight years, no vacations, no rest. I was tired. If you do something too much, you get tired. I needed a break to find the love for acting again,” he said in the video.
The actor, who holds a master’s degree in acting for film, stressed that he studied the craft professionally and has always viewed acting as a meaningful way to inspire people, not just a means to earn money. He admitted that his decision to step away from acting and focus on music was driven by frustration and fatigue, not a lack of passion for the industry. “I have high respect for acting… Waking up one day to say I’m not acting again felt like I swindled you guys. I’m sorry for playing with your emotions,” he added.
Emodi also acknowledged that his earlier announcement had disappointed many of his fans, who had looked up to him as a consistent and dedicated performer. He expressed regret for the emotional impact his words may have caused, especially during a time when he was struggling internally. The actor clarified that his intention was never to leave Nollywood for good but to take time to recharge and rediscover his joy in acting.
Going forward, Emodi plans to return to acting, but with a healthier work-life balance to prevent another burnout. He intends to continue his music career while selectively choosing film projects that align with his values and creative goals. His message to fans is one of gratitude and renewed commitment to his craft. As he moves forward, Emodi’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of self-care in demanding creative industries.
