Sunshine Stars Appoint Udi as New Technical Adviser in NNL

Sunshine Stars FC has appointed former Super Eagles midfielder Duke Udi as their new technical adviser, marking a significant step in the club’s push for promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The unveiling took place at the club’s training camp along Oda Road in Akure, Ondo State, and was officiated by Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA). Alongside Udi, Banjo Adepoju was also introduced as the new head coach of the Owena Waves, the club’s senior team. The event brought together key football stakeholders, including members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board and the Ondo State Football Association (OSFA).

Mr. Ogbonnaya addressed the gathering, urging Duke Udi to remain focused and undistracted as the club prepares for the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for both the technical crew and players. “Our goal is clear — to ensure a successful season and return Sunshine Stars FC to its rightful place among Nigeria’s elite football clubs,” Ogbonnaya stated. He highlighted the importance of teamwork, discipline, and strategic planning in achieving this objective.

Chief Dele Ajayi, Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association and a board member of the NFF, delivered a goodwill message during the event. He assured continued collaboration between OSFA and ODSFA to promote football development in the state. Ajayi also expressed confidence in the new technical crew’s ability to guide the team toward NPFL promotion. “We are behind this team 100 percent,” he said, underscoring the collective effort needed to revive the club’s fortunes.

In response, Duke Udi expressed deep gratitude to the Ondo State Football Agency and Sunshine Stars FC management for the trust placed in him. He promised to give his all to help the team achieve its goals, stating, “I will do everything possible to guide the Owena Waves back to the top flight.” Head Coach Banjo Adepoju also spoke, pledging to work closely with the technical team and select players strictly on merit. He emphasized the need for professionalism and unity as the club gears up for the new season.

Earlier in the day, the Sunshine Stars U-19 team received a warm reception for their outstanding performance at the 2026 President Federation Cup. Although they were eliminated by Barau FC in the Round of 16, their journey was marked by impressive victories over several top-ranked opponents. The youth team’s achievement was celebrated as a sign of the club’s growing strength and future potential.

This new leadership structure signals a fresh chapter for Sunshine Stars FC, with renewed hope for a return to the NPFL and sustained success in Nigerian football.
