Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has declared that Peter Obi’s presidential ambition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is “dead on arrival,” stating that any political party the former Anambra State governor joins will ultimately collapse. In a series of posts on his 𝕏 handle, Edochie dismissed the viability of Obi’s political comeback, asserting that the issue is not physical but rooted in deeper, unresolved challenges. He expressed surprise that Obi either remains unaware of these obstacles or deliberately ignores them, despite the evident lack of traction in his current political venture.
Edochie emphasized that Peter Obi cannot become president of Nigeria at this time, citing structural and strategic weaknesses in his campaign. His comments come amid growing speculation about Obi’s political future after he left the Labour Party, which he led during the 2023 presidential election. The ADC, a relatively new party, has yet to gain significant national support or electoral momentum. Edochie’s remarks have reignited debate about the sustainability of Obi’s political journey and the challenges facing opposition candidates in Nigeria’s current political landscape.
In a separate but related statement, Yul Edochie also spoke out against Igbos who criticize fellow kinsmen for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. He took to 𝕏 on Saturday to condemn what he described as internal division within the South-East community. According to him, it is unjust for individuals to single out Igbo supporters of Tinubu while ignoring similar backers from other regions. He questioned why critics do not direct their energy toward people from the North or South-West who also support the president, urging unity and broader perspective in political discourse.
Edochie’s comments have drawn mixed reactions across social media, with some praising his call for national unity and others criticizing his political stance. His voice adds to the growing chorus of public figures weighing in on Nigeria’s evolving political dynamics. As the 2027 general elections approach, figures like Edochie continue to influence public opinion, shaping narratives around leadership, regionalism, and national cohesion. His latest statements underscore the increasing role of celebrities in Nigeria’s political conversation, as they use their platforms to advocate for their views on governance and national unity.
