Former Football Administrator Mike Idoko Receives SWAN Recognition Award
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has recognized Mike Okpe Idoko, former Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars, with a prestigious award during the association’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.
The honor, which acknowledges Outstanding Support to SWAN and Contribution to sports development in Nigeria, was presented alongside awards to other distinguished Nigerian sports personalities. Idoko, who also served as General Manager of Sunshine Stars of Akure, expressed profound gratitude for the recognition of his contributions to Nigerian sports.
“I especially found this award soothing because it is coming while I am still living and at a time when people reward genuine efforts with scorn and disdain,” Idoko remarked in his acceptance statement.
The veteran sports administrator emphasized the significance of receiving such recognition while still active in the field, noting that many sports contributors often go unacknowledged. In dedicating the award to his family, players, and coaches who have worked with him throughout his career, Idoko pledged to continue his commitment to sports development.
“To the glory of God, I want to dedicate the award to my family and players and coaches who have passed through me,” he stated, adding that the recognition would motivate him to intensify his efforts in promoting Nigerian football. “I want to assure SWAN that this award will spur me to rededicate my life to the development and promotion of sports, especially football in Nigeria.”
This recognition by SWAN underscores the association’s commitment to acknowledging significant contributions to Nigerian sports development as it marks six decades of existence.
