Police Officers Warned Against Misconduct in Upcoming Anambra Governorship Elections
Police Service Commission (PSC) Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) has issued stern directives to police officers regarding their conduct during Saturday’s governorship elections in Anambra State.
In preparation for the crucial state election, PSC personnel have been strategically positioned across Anambra’s three Senatorial zones to observe and evaluate police behavior during the electoral process.
Speaking ahead of the polls, Argungu emphasized the critical need for police officers to maintain strict neutrality and professional conduct while protecting electoral officers and materials. He stressed that creating a safe environment for Anambra residents to exercise their voting rights without interference is paramount.
The PSC Chairman highlighted the significance of the Anambra election as a litmus test for law enforcement capabilities ahead of the 2027 General elections. He warned that any officer found compromising their duties would face disciplinary action, while those demonstrating exemplary professionalism would receive recognition.
Argungu expressed satisfaction with the preparatory measures implemented by the Anambra State Police Command. He particularly commended State Commissioner CP Ikioye Orutugu’s proactive approach, noting the commissioner’s recent inspection tours of Area Commands and identified flashpoints throughout the state.
According to a statement released Tuesday by Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, the Commission will deploy monitoring staff to operate from both the state capital and the three Senatorial Districts. This deployment aims to ensure comprehensive oversight of police conduct throughout the electoral process.
The directive underscores the Commission’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism in election security operations, with clear consequences for both compliance and violations of established protocols.
