PDP’s New Board of Trustees Vows Party Reform Amid Legal Challenges
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has entered a new phase of leadership as its newly inaugurated Board of Trustees (BoT) commits to comprehensive party reforms and unity following recent internal challenges.
At their inaugural emergency meeting in Abuja on Friday, November 8, 2025, the board, under the leadership of newly elected Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Secretary Hon. Isah Dansidi, outlined their strategic vision for the party’s future.
The meeting addressed several critical issues, particularly focusing on the implications of a recent Federal High Court judgment delivered on October 31, 2025. In a significant leadership transition, the board appointed Senator Mao Ohuabunwa from the South as Chairman and Hon. Isah Dansidi from the North as Secretary, replacing Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who stepped down due to their involvement in ongoing party disputes.
The new leadership emphasized the need for strict adherence to constitutional provisions and legal frameworks. They specifically highlighted that the Federal High Court’s judgment takes precedence over the interim order from the Oyo State High Court. Given pending appeals, the board recommended postponing the planned National Convention until the Court of Appeal renders its decision.
Key commitments outlined by the new BoT include: – Ensuring party unity and adherence to democratic principles – Promoting transparency and inclusive governance – Mediating among stakeholders to prevent divisive tendencies – Strengthening internal democratic processes – Upholding constitutional compliance across all party activities
The board also acknowledged the services of outgoing officers and called for continued faith in the party despite recent challenges. They emphasized the importance of genuine reconciliation and cooperation as fundamental elements for the party’s stability and growth.
Looking ahead, the BoT has positioned itself as the party’s moral compass, pledging to guide the PDP with fairness and integrity while working toward a successful National Convention that will reinforce party unity and credibility. The board has called on all PDP members, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to unite and support these constitutional reforms.
