NYSC Intensifies Fight Against Fraudulent Mobilization Practices
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reinforced its stance against fraud in graduate mobilization during the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop held in Abuja. The organization emphasized the critical importance of maintaining data integrity in its national service deployment process.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, addressed key stakeholders at the workshop, which focused on “Enhancing Data Integrity for Credible Mobilization for National Service in Contemporary Times.” The theme was particularly relevant given the growing concern over unauthorized higher institutions operating across Nigeria.
The organization faces several significant challenges in its mobilization process, including data manipulation, identity theft, and inconsistent information from Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs). Additional obstacles include weak inter-agency data connectivity, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and insufficient data management capabilities.
“Every Nigerian graduate who wears the NYSC uniform must be genuinely qualified and properly verified,” declared Brigadier General Nafiu, promising strict sanctions against institutions found engaging in unethical practices. He emphasized that while technology plays a crucial role, the system’s integrity ultimately depends on the ethics and professionalism of those managing it.
Mrs. Rachel Idaewor, Director of Corps Mobilisation, highlighted the workshop’s importance as a collaborative platform between NYSC, educational institutions, and other stakeholders. She called for heightened diligence in data verification for prospective corps members.
The event featured important contributions from other key figures in Nigeria’s education sector. Professor Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, revealed that 17 individuals, including JAMB officials, are currently facing prosecution for various admission and mobilization-related offenses. He advised Student Affairs Officers to obtain data directly from JAMB rather than relying on potentially unreliable sources.
Supporting the initiative, Engr. Olatunji Ariyomo, Chairman of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD), committed to collaborating with stakeholders to fulfill the agency’s federal government mandate effectively.
The workshop represents NYSC’s ongoing efforts to maintain its reputation for transparency and credibility in the national service scheme, particularly as it confronts evolving challenges in the digital age.
