Nigerian Star Goalkeeper Nnadozie Named Among FIFA’s Best Award Nominees
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has earned a prestigious nomination for the 2025 The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Award, adding to her remarkable achievements this year.
FIFA announced Thursday the commencement of global voting for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025, with Nnadozie competing against six other world-class goalkeepers. Her fellow nominees include Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger, Spain’s Cata Coll, Chile’s Christiane Endler, England’s Hannah Hampton and Anna Moorhouse, and USA’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
The 24-year-old Nigerian shot-stopper’s nomination follows an exceptional 2024/25 season with Paris FC, where she played a crucial role in securing the club’s first Coupe de France Féminine title in 20 years. Her outstanding performances continued on the international stage, where she proved instrumental in Nigeria’s triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. During the tournament, Nnadozie maintained four clean sheets in six matches and conceded only two goals from open play, earning the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award as Nigeria clinched their record tenth WAFCON title with a 3-2 victory in the final.
Following her successful stint at Paris FC, which included helping the team reach the French league playoffs, Nnadozie secured a transfer to English side Brighton & Hove Albion Women, where she continues to demonstrate her exceptional goalkeeping abilities.
Her growing international recognition includes a fourth-place finish in the 2025 Women’s Yachine Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. Nnadozie is also in contention for her third CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, which would further solidify her dominance in African football.
The voting period for The Best FIFA Awards runs until November 28, with winners to be announced at a ceremony in early 2026. As one of Africa’s most promising goalkeeping talents, Nnadozie’s nomination reflects her rising status in global football and continues to enhance the reputation of Nigerian goalkeepers on the international stage.
