Toyota Unveils Enhanced 2026 4Runner with Advanced Hybrid Options and Off-Road Capabilities

Toyota has announced its 2026 4Runner lineup, marking the second year of the SUV’s sixth generation with significant powertrain options and technological improvements. The new model is scheduled to reach dealerships in fall 2025, offering nine distinct trim levels to meet diverse consumer needs.

At the heart of the 2026 lineup are two powerful engine options. The i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, standard on SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Sport Premium models, generates 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque while achieving 26 MPG highway efficiency. The more powerful i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, standard on premium grades and optional on select models, delivers an impressive 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, with 24 MPG highway rating.

The new Trailhunter grade showcases Toyota’s commitment to off-road excellence, featuring specialized equipment including Old Man Emu® shocks, a high-mount air intake, and 33-inch Toyo® tires on bronze-finished 18-inch wheels. Additional features include an ARB® roof rack and RIGID Industries® color-selectable LED fog lamps.

For serious off-road enthusiasts, the TRD Pro grade comes exclusively with the i-FORCE MAX powertrain and includes TRD-tuned FOX® QS3 adjustable shocks and specialized performance features. The vehicle offers multiple drive configurations, with all i-FORCE MAX models featuring standard 4-Wheel Drive.

The 2026 4Runner maintains its practical appeal with a 6,000-pound towing capacity and comes in nine grades: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Color options include Ice Cap, Cutting Edge, Underground, Black, Heritage Blue, Everest, and the TRD Pro-exclusive Wave Maker, plus premium colors like Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl.

Technology features include an 8-inch or optional 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. All i-FORCE MAX models come standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Toyota backs the 2026 4Runner with comprehensive warranty coverage, including a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty and extended coverage for hybrid components. The vehicle also includes ToyotaCare, providing complimentary maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles and two years of unlimited Roadside Assistance.

This latest iteration of the 4Runner continues Toyota’s tradition of combining everyday practicality with serious off-road capability, now enhanced with modern hybrid technology and advanced features for both urban and adventure use.
