Lagos Waste Forum Returns Dec 2 as SWEEP Foundation Leads Summit

SWEEP Foundation’s President and CEO, Ambassador Obuesi Phillips, emphasized the paradigm shift in viewing waste as a valuable resource rather than a burden. “We are at a critical juncture where waste is no longer a burden but a resource,” Phillips stated, highlighting the forum’s role in reimagining waste management opportunities.

The event will feature technical sessions and panel discussions focusing on circular economy principles and sustainable practices. A highlight will be the announcement of winners from the Lagos Waste Challenge, a competition among Community Development Councils (CDCs) that showcases innovative local waste management solutions.

The forum has garnered support from multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and international organizations such as UNIDO, the European Union, and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

SWEEP Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on environmental education and sustainable waste management, emphasizes that successful transformation of the waste sector requires coordinated efforts between government bodies, private enterprises, and local communities. The foundation’s initiative aims to create jobs, promote resource circularity, and enhance environmental protection across Nigeria.

Interested participants can register through www.sweepfoundation.org or contact the SWEEP Foundation Secretariat for additional information.

Through this forum, stakeholders aim to establish a comprehensive roadmap for converting Nigeria’s waste management challenges into sustainable economic opportunities while promoting environmental stewardship for future generations.
