Lagos PDP Leadership Affirms Support for National Chairman Damagun
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared its unwavering support for the party’s National Chairman, Ambassador Ilya Damagun, amid recent leadership discussions within the party.
In a letter issued Monday, Lagos PDP Chairman Philip Olabode Aivoji expressed complete confidence in Damagun’s leadership and his initiatives to strengthen the party while upholding its constitutional principles. The declaration comes as part of broader efforts to maintain unity within the party’s ranks.
Aivoji specifically acknowledged the dedicated work of key party organs, including the Board of Trustees led by Senator Adolphus Wabara and the PDP Governors’ Forum under Senator Bala Mohammad’s leadership, in fulfilling the party’s responsibilities and objectives.
The chairman also addressed a controversial letter that had been sent to Senator Anyanwu by the State Secretary, firmly stating that this communication was unauthorized and did not represent the official position of the Lagos State PDP Executive Committee. Aivoji dismissed the unauthorized letter as an attempt to create discord within the state executive ranks, noting that the situation has been effectively addressed.
“I strongly stand in support of the communique of the Forum of the PDP State Chairmen held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 where we all pledged our loyalty to the leadership of Ambassador Ilya Damagun,” Aivoji emphasized in his statement.
Looking ahead to the party’s National Convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan in 2025, Aivoji assured that the Lagos State PDP Executive Committee remains committed to conducting a successful convention, guided by principles of integrity, justice, and fairness.
This public declaration of support comes at a crucial time as the PDP continues its efforts to maintain internal cohesion and prepare for future political engagements. The statement reinforces the Lagos chapter’s alignment with the national leadership’s vision for the party’s future direction.
