APC Chieftain Christie Nwoke Laid to Rest in Umuahia Amid Tributes
Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, joined other dignitaries to bid farewell to Honourable Christie Uche Nwoke, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader who died at 69.
The funeral service, held at the deceased’s Dozie Way residence in Umuahia, drew numerous political figures, traditional rulers, and community leaders who gathered to honor the late APC House of Assembly aspirant for Umuahia East State Constituency.
Dr. Ogah commemorated Hon. Lady Nwoke’s legacy, highlighting her unwavering commitment to the APC’s growth at both state and national levels. “She was a strong pillar of support who will be remembered for her dedication, faith, and service to humanity,” he remarked, emphasizing her reputation for completing tasks with determination and reliability.
During the service, Pastor Abundance Chika of Living Faith Church, Umuahia, delivered a sermon reflecting on life’s finite nature, encouraging attendees to maintain constant readiness for their appointed time.
Traditional rulers, including Eze Donatus Aguiyi of Ndume Ibeku and Eze Emmanuel Onwubuariri of Azueke Autonomous Community, praised Nwoke’s community service and humanitarian contributions. The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), where she served as State Organizing Secretary until her death, also expressed their condolences through State Chairman Chief Iheanyi Igboanulam.
Family members shared personal tributes, with her daughter Dr. Chika Ikedum announcing plans to establish a foundation focusing on childcare and supporting the underprivileged. Her son, Mr. Chinedu Nwoke, revealed his intentions to continue his mother’s political legacy, hinting at his own political aspirations for 2031.
The late Hon. Lady Nwoke was a respected leader of Abia Rejoice, a pro-APC group, and her passing marks the end of an era in Abia State politics. The funeral attracted numerous APC stalwarts, religious leaders, and community members, reflecting her significant impact on both political and social spheres in the region.
The service concluded with calls to emulate her dedication to public service and commitment to Christian values, as emphasized in Dr. Ogah’s reminder that “commitment to Christ is the only way to succeed on this earth.”
