The highlight of the celebration was an electrifying match between Polio Rescue Team A and Team B, which resulted in a high-scoring contest. Team A emerged victorious in what spectators described as a display of remarkable football artistry, with five goals scored during the encounter.
Local spectators gathered to witness the inspiring demonstration of athletic ability, making the event more than just a sporting competition. It served as a powerful platform to raise awareness about polio prevention and highlight the importance of rehabilitation services for individuals living with disabilities.
Olugbenga Kuye, the event’s convener and former Chairman of the Lagos State Para Soccer Association, used the occasion to advocate for increased government support for people with disabilities. He shared ambitious plans to expand similar tournaments across Lagos State’s five divisions, aiming to foster greater community engagement and awareness.
The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) received recognition for their ongoing support of the initiative. Kuye expressed gratitude while emphasizing the need for broader media coverage and increased support from both government institutions and private citizens.
“LSSTF’s support has been instrumental in making this event possible,” Kuye stated. “However, there’s potential for more. Our vision is to extend these tournaments throughout all divisions and share the incredible spirit we’ve witnessed today.”
