Gov. Inuwa Pledges N20m Aid After Fire Destroys GSU Student Hostel

Gombe State University to Get New Female Hostel Following Fire Incident

In response to a recent fire outbreak at Gombe State University (GSU), Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has announced comprehensive plans to construct a new female hostel alongside immediate support measures for affected students.

During his visit to the campus, Governor Yahaya pledged N20 million in aid to support students impacted by the fire disaster, which destroyed a female dormitory but fortunately resulted in no casualties or injuries. The emergency response includes both immediate relief and long-term infrastructure improvements.

The state government has initiated a multi-faceted approach to address the situation. The Commissioner for Higher Education will collaborate with the Works and Housing department to fast-track the construction of a new female hostel facility. Additionally, the Fire Service has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the fire’s cause to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The governor’s financial support will supplement earlier assistance provided by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). A portion of the N20 million donation will be channeled through the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) to support students traumatized by the incident, ensuring fair distribution of aid.

Speaking at the university, Governor Yahaya emphasized his administration’s commitment to maintaining safe and well-equipped learning environments across Gombe State. The university administration, represented by Registrar Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, expressed gratitude for the governor’s swift response and support.

The governor’s delegation included prominent state officials such as Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, House of Assembly Speaker Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, Secretary to the State Government Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Chief of Staff Abubakar Inuwa Kari, various commissioners, agency heads, and security officials.

The new hostel project represents part of the state government’s broader initiative to enhance educational infrastructure while ensuring student safety and comfort at Gombe State University.
