Mailantarki: Grassroots Programs Key to Table Tennis Growth

NTTF’s New Leadership Pledges Focus on Grassroots Development and School Sports

The newly elected Vice President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Hon. Khamisu Ahmad Mailantarki, has outlined ambitious plans to revolutionize table tennis development in Nigeria, emphasizing grassroots initiatives and school sports programs.

Following his election on October 4, 2025, at the MKO Abiola International Stadium’s Media Centre in Abuja, Mailantarki announced a comprehensive strategy to expand the sport’s reach across the nation. The election marked a significant transition in the federation’s leadership, with Dr. Adesoji Tayo stepping in as President-elect.

In his first official statement, Mailantarki expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, particularly highlighting the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) role in ensuring a transparent election process. He specifically acknowledged the supervision of African Table Tennis Federation President Wahid Enitan Oshodi and commended outgoing NTTF President Engr. Ishaku Tikon for establishing a strong foundation for the federation.

The new leadership team has identified three primary focus areas: school sports development, grassroots initiatives, and strategic partnerships. These priorities aim to increase participation and strengthen Nigeria’s position in international table tennis competitions.

“We are committed to broadening participation and accelerating the acceptance of table tennis nationwide,” Mailantarki stated, emphasizing the importance of youth development and transparent governance under Dr. Tayo’s leadership.

Mailantarki brings significant experience to his role, having served as a former House of Representatives member and running as a gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State in 2023. His background as President of Mailantarki Sports Group and his success in business, particularly in real estate and agriculture, positions him well to contribute to the federation’s development goals.

The new NTTF administration has pledged to implement innovative programs that will enhance Nigeria’s competitive standing in both African and global table tennis, focusing on sustainable growth through systematic development at all levels.
