Ingredients
- 200g plain flour
- 70g sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 160ml lukewarm water
- Sunflower oil or vegetable oil for deep frying
Steps to Follow
- Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg
- Step 2: In a separate small bowl, mix lukewarm water with 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast. Let stand 5-10 minutes until foamy
- Step 3: Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and mix thoroughly to form a batter
- Step 4: Cover with plastic wrap or a towel and let rise for 90-120 minutes until doubled in size
- Step 5: Heat oil in a deep pan to about 3 inches depth
- Step 6: Scoop batter by hand or with an ice cream scoop and drop into hot oil
- Step 7: Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally
- Step 8: Remove and drain on paper towels
