Fubara Bows to Assembly Pressure, Recalls 1,000 Teachers Recruited in 2023

Rivers: Fubara Orders Immediate Recall of 1,000 Teachers After Assembly’s Concerns Over School Decay

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has taken action following pressure from the State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule concerning the deteriorating condition of public schools in the state.

The Assembly, during its plenary session penultimate Thursday, expressed dissatisfaction with the state of primary and secondary schools across Rivers.

Although Governor Fubara on Monday countered the lawmakers by stating that the decline in school infrastructure predates his administration, he moved on Tuesday to address manpower gaps by directing the immediate recall of 1,000 teachers recruited in 2023.

The directive was contained in a public announcement signed by Sam Ogeh, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

“In fulfillment of his promise to bridge the manpower gap in public schools across Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has approved the appointment of new teachers across the state,” the statement read.

“As part of this initiative, His Excellency has directed the revalidation of the 1,000 teachers recruited in 2023.

“To this end, all the affected teachers are required to report to the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) for the revalidation exercise.

“All teachers who were recruited in 2023 are expected to be present with their appointment and posting letters,” it added.
