Why I Returned to Nigeria on Ivorian Jet, Jonathan Explains

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has clarified why he returned to Nigeria aboard an aircraft provided by Côte d’Ivoire following the unrest in Guinea Bissau.

Jonathan said he was in the country leading an election observation mission when reports of gunfire and rising tension triggered concern back home. According to him, both Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire made immediate arrangements to evacuate him and his team.

He explained that the Ivorian aircraft was the first to receive landing clearance and was already on its way before the Nigerian plane got approval. When the Nigerian jet was later cleared, his delegation decided not to halt the evacuation that was already in progress.

Jonathan expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and President Alassane Ouattara for acting swiftly. He also thanked Nigerians for their concern and support during the situation.
