Agricultural Federation Calls on Tinubu to Join 2025 Farm Show

National Agricultural Show 2023: NAFN Extends Presidential Invitation to Tinubu

The National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria (NAFN) has formally invited President Bola Tinubu to attend the upcoming 17th Annual National Agricultural Show, scheduled for November 24-28, 2023, in Karu, Nasarawa State.

In a statement issued by NAFN Board of Trustees Chairman, Arc. Kabir Ibrahim, the organization emphasized that President Tinubu’s attendance would significantly boost Nigeria’s agricultural sector and inspire smallholder farmers. The president is expected to officially open the event on November 25, 2023, demonstrating his commitment to the “Agricultural Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The five-day exhibition will serve as a comprehensive platform bringing together various stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, including farmers, researchers, equipment manufacturers, government agencies, and food vendors. The event aims to showcase technological innovations, facilitate knowledge exchange, and create networking opportunities for participants.

Key features of the show include: – Technology demonstrations and product exhibitions – Peer-to-peer learning sessions for farmers – Market connectivity between producers and buyers – Educational programs for the public – A signature symposium focusing on agricultural inclusivity

Ibrahim highlighted the current challenges facing Nigeria’s agrifood system and emphasized the need for alignment with the Commercial African Agriculture Program (CAADP). The initiative involves collaboration with organizations such as FAO, GIZ, and private sector entities including the Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG) and Dangote Tomato (DANSA).

The NAFN chairman also addressed recent agricultural policies, noting that while the government’s 180-day zero tariff import window has successfully reduced food prices, it has created challenges for local farmers. He stressed the importance of balancing these measures with reduced input costs for fertilizers and agrochemicals to ensure sustainable agricultural development.

The event will be held along Keffi Road in Karu, Nasarawa State, featuring a dedicated main auditorium for symposiums and discussions aimed at advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
